At the Billboard Music Awards, BTS created history. After being nominated seven times in six categories at the 2022 BBMAs, the K-pop trio shattered its own record for the most nominations garnered by any group or pair in any year. It set a new record by winning three awards during the award ceremony in Las Vegas on Sunday.

BTS members RM, Jin, Jimin, V, Suga, J-Hope, and Jungkook won the prizes for Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Selling Song for Butter, despite skipping the Billboard Music Awards to focus on their next album. They have now surpassed Destiny’s Child (17 years ago) as the music group with the most Billboard Music Accolades victories, with a total of 12 awards. The former band included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams.
BTS created history by becoming the first K-pop group to be nominated for and win a Billboard Award in 2017. Since then, the band has received an award every year. Since their first nomination in the category in 2017, they have won the Top Social Artist award five years in a row. They were also named Top Duo/Group in 2019, 2021, and 2022. They also won the Top Song Sales Artist and Top Selling Song categories again this year, bringing their overall prize tally to 12.
“BTS paved the way,” ARMY said, congratulating BTS on their historic victory. One person wrote, “Congratulations on three well-deserved awards and much more. The seven kingsOthers congratulated them on breaking the record set by Destiny’s Child, which included Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. In 2006, the band officially disbanded.
According to a devotee, “Destiny’s offspring! Beyoncé was a member of this group! Do you see BTS’ influence? “Can I just declare that BTS just exceeded a band in awards that has Beyoncé as one of its members?” one person wrote, while another added, “Can I just state that BTS just surpassed a band in awards that has Beyoncé” Others speculated about a possible cooperation between BTS and Beyonce. “So Beyonce X BTS?” wrote one.

Despite BTS’ historic victory, ARMY has not forgiven Billboard for questioning the K-pop group’s success. The ARMY was accused of unintentionally manipulating the charts in BTS’ latest Billboard interview by mass-buying their tracks. This came after their English single Butter, which was published in May 2021, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the longest time it for 10 weeks.
ARMY is still furious about it, and has asked Billboard why the Top Social Artist category was removed without explanation. The Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist, which was introduced in 2011, is one of three fan-voted categories in the award show. It is based on major fan interactions, music streams, and social engagement, as well as the results of global online voting. BTS has won the award for five years in a row, and if they won this year, they would have tied Justin Bieber’s record of six wins.

Meanwhile, BTS is preparing to release its new album on June 10. The anthology album titled Proof consists of 15 tracks, including several old songs and a new song Run BTS. The lead track is titled Yet To Come.
