A storey about a mother elephant returning to the rescue centre where she stayed as a child to show off her new calf has captured the hearts of the public. The heartwarming anecdote, which was shared on Instagram, will bring a smile to your face.
The video was shared on Instagram by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, along with a description. They also uploaded a photo of the mother elephant with her two cubs.
The text tells how Icholta, the mother elephant, spent her childhood at the rescue centre and has now returned to her ‘home’ to show off her new calf to the caregivers.
“This is a one-of-a-kind portrait of a family. If you can believe it, we rescued Icholta (on the left) last century — well, last millennium! Icholta was rescued from a waterhole when she was just weeks old, spent her early years at our Nursery, and then learnt how to live as a wild elephant at our Voi Reintegration Unit. She gave birth to Inca in 2016 and returned “home” just a day into 2022 to introduce us to her newest arrival, baby Izzy! “You can see Icholta’s pride beaming from her face as she stares upon her son and daughter in this video, and we are equally proud to watch this family thrive,” they said wrote.
“Izzy, for her part, is swiftly picking up on the Tsavo routine,” they wrote in the next few paragraphs. See how she enjoys a midday mud bath while her protective brother and proud mother look on in the second slide!”
