In the final session, the Sensex rose 385 points to 57,315; the Nifty rose 117 points to 17,073.

The Sensex rose 385 points on Thursday, led by advances in index heavyweights Infosys, ITC, and HDFC, after a bullish trend overseas.

The 30-stock index rose 384.72 points, or 0.68 percent, to 57,315.28. Likewise, the NSE Nifty rose 117.15 points, or 0.69 percent, to 17,072.60.

PowerGrid was the Sensex pack’s biggest gainer, climbing over 4%, followed by ITC, Bajaj Finance, Infosys, NTPC, and Tech Mahindra.

Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Maruti, and UltraTech Cement, on the other hand, were among the laggards.

“Indian markets opened in the green, following favourable Asian market peers, as investors reacted to research showing a lower chance of hospitalisation and serious sickness with Omicron compared to Delta,” said Narendra Solanki, Head- Equity Research (Fundamental), Anand Rathi.

Markets remained strong throughout the afternoon session. He remarked that the rating agency ICRA stated that the profitability of the sugar, fertiliser, and dairy sectors will stay constant in FY22.

In other parts of Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Seoul finished higher.

In mid-session trades, European stock exchanges were also trading on a high note.

Meanwhile, the international oil benchmark Brent crude fell 0.8% to USD 75.22 per barrel.
