Much has been said and written about Kabir Bedi’s tumultuous relationship with Parveen Babi. Even though Kabir was in an open marriage with Protima Bedi at the time, the two actors dated in the 1970s. Kabir spoke candidly about the relationship and what he owed Parveen in a recent interview.
The seasoned actor described Parveen as “an extraordinarily sensitive and brilliant woman,” and explained why their relationship split apart despite the fact that both of them wanted to stay together.
Parveen Babi has struggled with mental illness her entire life. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Kabir discussed how her mental instability and his work obligations were at conflict. “Parveen was a caring and intelligent young lady. She have a tremendous capacity for loving. What happened to her was a horrible event. Despite the fact that she offered me a lot of affection and a sense of belonging, the cloud of her mental illness lingered over us. The tragedy of her mental condition was occurring at the same time as Sandokan, my greatest achievement in Europe. For me, it was a trying time. But, at the same time, I appreciate all that she has given me, including affection “he state.
In 1976, Kabir was gone in Europe filming the lead part in the Italian TV series Sandokan. Around the same period, Parveen’s mental health began to deteriorate.
In the interview, the actor also discussed how the three men with whom Parveen Babi had a love relationship—him, Danny Denzongpa, and Mahesh Bhatt—all attended her 2005 funeral. “”Well, we shared her life and she shared ours,” he added, adding, “Parveen deserved that respect.” We genuinely cared about her, even if we couldn’t stop her from collapsing.”
In his recently released memoir Stories I Must Tell, Kabir Bedi writes about his life, particularly his relationship with Parveen Babi. He most recently appeared in the online series Thinkistaan and will soon be featured in the Telugu film Shaakuntalam. He is currently a contestant on Grande Fratello VIP, the Italian version of Big Brother.
