Finance ministry, there is no proposal to extend the deadline for filing I-T returns.

The Union Finance Ministry stated on Friday that there is no proposal to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITRs). The deadline for filing an income tax return is today, December 31, 2021.

“A total of 5.62 crore returns had been filed by 3 p.m. today.” Over 20 lakh returns were filed today. “This year, 60 lakh more returns have been filed,” said Tarun Bajaj, the revenue secretary, during the announcement.

Following a letter from local merchants association Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) earlier this week, there has been speculation that the tax deadline could be extended once more for the financial year ending March 2021.

ITR reporting deadlines have already been extended for another five months, to December 31.

Meanwhile, responding to questions on the ongoing tax raids, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that when law enforcing agencies conduct search operations, they go only with actionable intelligence.

“How does Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, know that this is BJP money? Is he the other half? Is he afraid? “On the sidelines of the GST council meeting’s press conference, Sitharaman said.

Earlier in the day, the Income Tax department raided multiple premises linked to certain perfume traders in Uttar Pradesh, including Samajwadi Party MLC Pushparaj Jain, in Kannauj.

Officials stated searches are being done in Kannauj, Kanpur, NCR, Surat, and Mumbai, with a total of 30-40 locations.
