The Assam government announced a night curfew from 11.30 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday, citing an increase in Omicron infections across the country. Assam has yet to disclose any verified instances of the Omicron coronavirus type. The new Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) directive will take effect on December 26 but will not apply on New Year’s Eve, December 31. All workplaces, business enterprises, cafés, showrooms, grocery stores, dairy and milk booths would be prohibited from remaining open after 10.30 p.m., according to the new decree.
The state has asked district disaster management agencies (DDMAs) to set a limit for gathering in open spaces based on the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) status in their districts. Closed venues are authorised to operate at 50% of their capacity under the ASDMA.
The government has permitted iconic religious institutions to operate with 60 completely vaccinated people per hour, while smaller religious institutions can operate with 40 fully vaccinated people per hour. Only fully vaccinated viewers with Covid suitable measures will be seated in the cinema hall, which will continue to operate at 50% capacity.
“All district magistrates, superintendents of police, and all other authorities concerned should be accountable for enforcing Covid Appropriate Behaviour in all public areas in order to contain the Covid-19 virus,” the decree stated.
In light of an increase in instances of the highly contagious Omicron form, several states have proposed new limitations.
