Maharashtra will have a booth at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The state is attending the summit as part of Team India, showcasing Maharashtra’s role in helping India achieve a $5 trillion economy.
Maharashtra unveils its pavilion at World Economic Forum
State environment minister Aaditya Thackeray, industries minister Subhash Desai, and energy minister Dr Nitin Raut lead the Maharashtra government team. According to the government statement, the ministers were accompanied by Ashish Kumar Singh, the Maharashtra chief minister’s additional chief secretary, Baldev Singh, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited managing director Vijay Singhal, and other top state government officials.
The Maharashtra delegation has scheduled talks with CEOs of Fortune 500 businesses with the hopes of attracting significant investment to the state. On Sunday, the delegation visited with significant investors such as Suntoru, a worldwide beverage company, and UPL, a multinational chemical company that is investing in 20 acres of property in the Raigad area.
The Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Global Plastic Action Partnership (“GPAP”) and launched the Maharashtra Plastic Action Partnership (Maharashtra PAP), which would serve as a roadmap for the state’s sustainable growth.
In 2018, Maharashtra became the first state to ban single-use plastics, and it has been at the forefront of sustainable development with strong policies and action plans to balance development and climate change.
To encourage investments, the state government launched the Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0 campaign. The campaign was successful in attracting new investments worth 1.89 lakh crore, as well as FDI worth 2 lakh crore. Magnetic Maharashtra, the tenth edition, will be held in Davos by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.
