“Minister Ajay Mishra must resign”: opposition disrupts parliament over “assassination” of Lakhimpur Kheri

As opposition parties requested the expulsion of Union minister of state for home affairs Ajay Mishra ‘Teni,’ Parliament continued to be disrupted by the Lakhimpur Kheri riots, in which eight people were killed. The opposition parties have been calling for Mishra’s arrest since the event on October 3, but their demand gained traction after a Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the violence labelled it a “pre-planned conspiracy.”

Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have been adjourned until 2 p.m.

Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, described the incident in the Lok Sabha today “”It was a murder,” he said, adding, “We should be able to talk about it.” The minister who murdered farmers should resign and be prosecuted “He was emphatic.

Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition, has also urged a debate in the Rajya Sabha. “In Rajya Sabha, we issued a notice under Rule 267 about the Lakhimpur Kheri tragedy. We wanted to have a conversation about the incidents that occurred there, particularly the SIT plainly stating that the mowing down of farmers was pre-planned, a conspiracy, and a murder “He further stated

Meanwhile, suspended opposition party members demonstrated near the Gandhi statue, demanding the resignation of MoS Home Ajay Misra Teni.

On October 3, at least four farmers and a journalist were killed when a jeep mowed down cultivators near Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri area. Farmers are angry because Union politician Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish was in the car when the killings occurred; however, the duo has denied any complicity.

During the investigation, 13 persons were arrested, including the minister’s son Ajay.

The SIT, which is investigating the case under the supervision of retired high court judges, described the Lakhimpur violence as a “pre-planned plot” on Wednesday.
